Mariyam Shamma Ismail has been appointed as the new Registrar of Companies.

Shamma was appointed to the position following the resignation of the previous Registrar, Mariyam Visam, on 5 March 2025.

Confirming this, Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed took to social media platform ‘X’, stating that Mariyam Shamma Ismail has been appointed to the position, and welcomed her.

Shamma obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of the West of England. She served as the Consumer Ombudsman in 2021, and prior to that, she worked as a Legal Consultant at the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade.

Shamma has also held important positions such as Director of Legal and Policy Affairs at the Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM) and Registrar of the Supreme Court.
