Even though President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu met with famous Bollywood celebrities to promote Maldivian tourism, India remains in sixth place on the list of countries with the most tourist arrivals to the Maldives.

According to statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, so far this year, a total of 21,871 Indian tourists have visited the Maldives.

The figures disclosed by the Tourism Ministry show that as of March 5, the most tourist arrivals have been from China. In 2024, China, which topped the list, saw 60,572 visitors welcomed in the Maldives, accounting for 13.1 percent of the total arrivals.

Russia ranks second with 46,465 tourists, representing 10 percent of the total.

The United Kingdom is third, with 46,190 tourists having arrived by March 5.

Other important markets include Italy with 43,527 tourists and Germany with 29,839 tourists.

As of March 5, the number of tourists visiting the Maldives reached 463,406, showing a 4.6 percent increase compared to the same period last year. According to the ministry’s statistics, 443,128 tourists visited the Maldives during this period in 2024.

The majority of tourists visiting the Maldives stayed at resorts. 69.1 percent of the total tourists stayed at resorts. The proportion of tourists who stayed at guesthouses was 25.6 percent. The percentage of tourists who stayed at hotels was 2.8 percent and 2.4 percent of the total tourists chose safari vessels.
