Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer has cancelled a meeting scheduled to be held with the Maldivian community residing in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, as part of his ongoing official trip to the Middle East.

FM Zameer arrived in UAE on the official visit on Monday night.

Screenshots of a conversation on a WhatsApp group consisting of Maldivian officials in the UAE, revealing the minister’s intention to meet with Maldivians living in the UAE during his visit, have been circulating on social media.

According to these messages, the minister was scheduled to meet the Maldivian community residing in Abu Dhabi at the Maldivian Embassy in Abu Dhabi at 04:30pm on September 3.

However, these screenshots reveal that only one person had expressed interest and registered to participate in this meeting.

Due to the lack of interest from Maldivian citizens to meet with the minister, the meeting was later cancelled.

Taking to social media platform ‘X’ regarding the matter, member of People’s National Front (PNF), Dr. Mohamed Maleeh Jamaal stressed that the people are openly saying "No" to the incumbent administration of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. He suggested that the low turnout reflects public dissatisfaction with the incumbent administration.

During FM Zameer's visit, he is scheduled to meet with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, as well as other senior officials of the UAE government.
