The fisher community in Kudahuvadhoo island of Dhaal atoll have also begun protesting against the delay in settling their payments.

Speaking to RaajjeMV earlier, a fisherman from the island revealed that the protest would be held at the harbor region.

The protest began at around 04:15pm on Tuesday, at the island’s harbor region.

The fisherman went on to reveal that the protest is a peaceful protest being staged by the island’s fisher community and that the council has also been notified that the protest is being carried out.

The crew members of several fishing boats joined the protest.

One of the main complaints of the fishermen of Kudahuvadhoo is that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu visited the island during his presidential campaign and promised to set up a fish factory on the island and instead of doing so, shifted the work of the fish factory to another island.

Another complaint of the island’s fisher community is that they still have not been paid dues for their catch.

As such, payments amounting to MVR two million are still pending for some fishing vessels.

Fishermen from the island have stated that the protest does not stem from a particular political party.

Fishermen belonging to different political parties, including the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) are taking part in the protest.
