President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has officially designated Valla Island in Dhaal Atoll as part of Kudahuvadhoo Island, also located within the same atoll.

The decision was announced through Presidential Decree No. 2025/21, issued under the authority granted by Section 134(a) of Law No. 7/2010, the Decentralization Act governing the administrative divisions of the Maldives.

This move fulfills a presidential pledge made by Dr. Muizzu during a visit to Kudahuvadhoo on March 5, 2025, where he committed to integrating Valla in a manner that would support the island’s economic development.

Following the decree, the official list of inhabited islands in the Maldives, outlined in the appendix of Presidential Decree No. 2/2025 (Determination of Inhabited Islands in the Maldives), has been amended accordingly and published in the Government Gazette.
