Maldives will be delivering a joint statement on behalf of a group of SIDS based in Geneva

The government of Maldives is participating in the 56th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC).

The 56th Session of the UNHRC commenced in Geneva, Switzerland, on Tuesday.

The session will proceed through July 12 and the delegation from Maldives will be delivering national statements under several agenda items, in accordance with the government’s key policies and priorities.

Maldives will be delivering a joint statement on behalf of a group of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) based in Geneva, at the Annual Panel on Adverse Impacts of Climate Change and Technical Assistance and Capacity Building.

The island nation will also present a joint statement on women’s equal participation for an inclusive multilateral system as part of the core group for Women in Diplomacy and Multilateralism, alongside a resolution on the Independence of Judges and Lawyers, in collaboration with a cross-regional core group.

The delegation from Maldives is being led by Ambassador Dr. Salma Rasheed.

The delegation comprises of Counsellor of the Maldives Mission to the UN offices at Geneva Adam Hamid, Counsellor of the Maldives Mission to the UN offices at Geneva Aminath Shifaya Ibrahim, Second Secretary of the Maldives Mission to the UN offices at Geneva Maryam Fathika Fayaz, Second Secretary Aishath Rifga and Attaché of the Permanent Mission of the Maldives to the United Nations Offices at Geneva Raaidh Saeed.
