The Prosecutor General’s Office (PG Office) has decided to drop all charges against Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik, who was recently appointed as the Bureau of Chief at the People’s Majlis.

The Prosecutor General has confirmed to RaajjeMV, that the charges on major criminal offences against the former parliamentarian, are being withdrawn.

Some of the serious charges that have been pinned against him include accepting bribery, requesting bribes, and money laundering.

Nihan was accused of illegally acquiring massive amounts of money, expensive watches and other goods during his tenure as a parliamentarian.

The ex-lawmaker has also been accused of using USD 150,000 illegally acquired in transactions through the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), to purchase an apartment at Platinum Residences.

At a time the case against Nihan is being withdrawn, the court was back then requested to take over the properties and goods that Nihan was believed to have acquired illegally, and hand them over to the state.

Nihan was appointed as the Bureau of Chief at the People’s Majlis by Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla, just last week.

The speaker will also sit in the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), the body that regulates the judiciary, as the Speaker of the Parliament.
