The government is set to present the state budget forecast for 2026 on Thursday.

The announcement was confirmed at the conclusion of Wednesday's sitting of the People’s Majlis, with the parliamentary website scheduling a session at 9am solely for the presentation of the 2026 budget forecast.

Details of the budget, including the total proposed allocation, have not yet been released by the Ministry of Finance.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has previously indicated that the 2026 budget will prioritize the health sector.

By contrast, this year’s budget was described as a “housing budget,” with a record allocation of MVR 1.8 billion for housing projects. According to the Ministry of Finance’s Fiscal Developments Report, only nine percent of this amount has been spent so far.
