Hulhulé experiences heavy rain

Due to the squally weather, the department has been issuing a number of alerts, both white and yellow over the past couple of days

Alifushi island in Raa atoll has experienced 40.4 millimeters of rainfall within the past 24 hours.

This was revealed by the Maldives Meteorological Service (MMS) in its statistics, publicized for the rainfall recorded between 8am Saturday and 8am Sunday.

MMS revealed that 40.1 millimeters of rainfall was experienced in Maafaru island of Noonu atoll.

Further, Makunudhoo island in Haa Dhaal atoll experienced 37.9 millimeters of rainfall, Komandoo island in Shaviyani atoll experienced 29.7 millimeters of rainfall, Hulhulé island experienced 26.1 millimeters of rainfall, capital Malé City experienced 21.1 millimeters of rainfall, Kelaa island in Haa Alif atoll experienced 19.8 millimeters of rainfall, Maavah island in Laamu atoll experienced 19.5 millimeters of rainfall, Kulhudhuffushi City in Haa Dhaal atoll experienced 19.1 millimeters of rainfall, Hulhumalé experienced 16.1 millimeters of rainfall and Kahdhoo island in Laamu atoll experienced 13.4 millimeters of rainfall.

The department went on to reveal that average and maximum wind speed during the past 24 hours was at a record high in some areas.

As such, winds gusted up to 64 miles per hour in Muli island in Meemu atoll and up to 52 in Nilandhoo island in Faafu atoll as well as Gan district of southernmost Addu City.

Due to the squally weather, the department has been issuing a number of alerts, both white and yellow over the past couple of days.

The latest yellow alert was issued on Sunday evening, for torrential rain, thunderstorms with gusts of 50 miles per hour and “very rough seas” from Haa Alif atoll to Laamu atoll. The yellow alert is effective through 9pm, Sunday.
