Vice President Faisal Naseem has arrived in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, on an official visit.
VP Naseem departed from the Velana International Airport (VIA), on Friday morning.
He arrived on Saturday and the purpose of his trip is to attend the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP27).
A high-level delegation of government officials accompanies the Vice President on the visit.
VP Naseem is scheduled to deliver the national statement at the conference and is scheduled to participate in multiple high-level roundtable discussions.
A chance to address the archipelago nation's aims for sustainable development on a global level, COP27 is a significant occasion for the Maldives.
COP27 will be hosted by the government of Egypt.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has been a vocal advocate regarding the fiscal strain and climate vulnerabilities faced by Small Island Developing States (SIDS) during preceding global forums.
Earlier, Maldives announced an ambitious plan to achieve net zero emissions by 2030.
COP27 brings parties together to accelerate global climate action through emissions reduction, scaled-up adaptation efforts, and enhanced flows of appropriate finance.

The UN Climate Change Conference encompasses COP27, the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP17) and the fourth session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Paris Agreement (CMA4).
The formal opening plenary of the conference is scheduled to be held on Sunday at the Sharm El-Sheikh International Convention Center.
