The People's Majlis held the second sitting for the ongoing session of parliament on Monday, with names forwarded for review to the relevant parliamentary commissions for appointment into vacant positions on the Elections Commission, Tax Appeal Tribunal and the Maldives Broadcasting Commission.
16 names were forwarded for review to the Parliament Committee on Independent Institutions for the vacant seat on the Elections Commission (EC). This includes the name of Dr. Mohamed Zahir, who is a preferred choice of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih for the appointment as per a letter he addressed to Majlis regarding the vacancy, which was read on the floor of parliament on Monday.
A seat was vacated on the EC following the resignation of EC Vice-President Ahmed Akram back in November last year. Akram had resigned at a time the People's Majlis had initiated the procedure to remove him from his position citing disciplinary issues.
A further 11 names were forwarded to the Committee for the vacant seat on the Maldives Broadcasting Commission (Broadcom). One of seven seats was vacated on the commission following the resignation of Broadcom member Zeena Zahir in October last year, while parliamentary procedures had been initiated to remove her from her position. In a letter read on the floor of parliament, President Solih's preference for the order of names sent for review are as follows;

In addition to this, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih also forwarded 4 names for review for appointment to the Tax Appeal Tribunal. The names are as follows, in order of preference as presented by President Solih in his letter to parliament;

A seat was vacated on the Tax Appeal Tribunal following the resignation of Fathmath Minhath Izzath from the position on 7 December 2020. The Tax appeal tribunal is tasked with arbitrating matters related to the Tax Administration Act and other taxation laws, and is comprised of five members.
