Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO) has announced they will now be collecting waste from residences between 10pm and 12am starting Sunday.
Speaking on RaajjeTV’s “Fala Surukhee" program earlier this week, Managing Director Adam Mohamed said WAMCO has changed their waste collection strategy following the Covid-19 pandemic, by requesting the public to bag their own waste and leave it on the street for WAMCO teams to collect at the designated time.
He added that the times for waste collection services had been changed after consulting Male' City Council and other stakeholders on how best to manage and collect the waste generated in the Greater Male' Region.
Previously, WAMCO was collecting waste separately from different buildings at set times of the day, which caused road blocks and traffic jams in the deeply congested capital, WAMCO has since suspended their "Doorstop Waste Collection" service as well.
WAMCO also expressed concern on the increasing number of units who do not pay the monthly fee for their waste collection service; their statistics show that less than 30% of registered homes and businesses pay the monthly fee, but the company revealed they have declined to withhold services from them despite them not paying WAMCO's fee for waste collection services.
