President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has traveled to Laamu atoll, on Thursday afternoon.
He is to travel to Kadhdhoo island first, where he will inspect a training demo at the Maldives National Defence Force's (MNDF) Central Area Headquarters.
He is scheduled to travel to Gan island later on Thursday, to inaugurate the Laamu Gan Central Power Plant, Laamu Gan Zone Stadium as well as the CT scan service at the Laamu Gan Regional Hospital.
The president will also meet with the island community, to discuss their priorities and concerns.
While this is the president’s second trip to an inhabited since the Covid-19 pandemic emerged, his first visit was to Hoarafushi island of Haa Alifu atoll to attend the Hoarafushi Airport inauguration ceremony.
Prior to the President Solih’s trip, his spokesperson on Wednesday announced that the government does not support the use of school students at such events.
While this was seen during the president's most recent trip, Ibrahim Hood said there have not been any such appeals by any government-related institutions, and stressed that President Solih urged all to refrain from doing so.
