Intelligence reports not used in arresting real criminals

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Parliamentary Group Deputy Leader Rozaina Adam has said that the Government constantly talked of intelligence reports as an excuse to arrest opposition political leaders.

She added that these very intelligence reports and evidence failed to yield results when a real criminal needed to be arrested.

Rozaina questioned about the lack of intelligence reports, especially in relation to the brutal murder of Dr. Afrasheem Ali and missing journalist Ahmed Rilwan. However, she said the intelligence reports were extremely efficient when it comes to arresting political opponents.

Rozaina said the opposition movement was growing and that the Government will use every trick in the book to prevent this from happening.

Referring to the allegations made against Jumhooree Party Leader Qasim Ibrahim, Rozaina said that Government was constantly talking of how he had attempted to influence key individuals. She noted that this was especially ironic, considering that former Criminal Court Judge was seen exiting President Yameen’s residence late in the night, a scene that was clearly captured on camera.
