Two individuals in possession of drugs and alcohol have been arrested from Hulhumalé.
Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that they launched the counter-narcotics operations following a tip off regarding drug trafficking, on Friday night.
Officers from the Police Intelligence Unit, Hulhumalé Police Station and the Specialist Operations department collaboratively conducted the operation through which two Maldivian men, aged 30, were arrested.
Two apartments in the capital Malé City’s suburban extension were searched in the operation and officers confiscated eight rubber packets smudged with suspected heroine as well as empty rubber packets, from one of the buildings.
While five vehicles were also searched in the operation, officers confiscated hefty amounts of alcohol and drugs from one of the cars. The confiscated items include 33 beer cans, 58 bottles of alcohol and 51 cellophane pieces filled with suspected cannabis.
Hulhumalé Police Station is currently conducting further investigations into the case.
As part of the government’s efforts to curb the trafficking and smuggling of drugs and alcohol in the Maldives, police have been conducting such counter-narcotics operations nationwide.
