On Monday, Maldives reported 49 new cases of the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to statistics publicized by the Health Protection Agency (HPA), Monday’s cases were out of the 1,303 samples tested between 6pm Sunday to 6pm Monday.
Out of the new cases, 43 were reported from the greater Malé region and six, from residential islands.
The new cases include 33 Maldivians and 16 foreigners.
With this development, the country’s Covid-19 tally has risen to 10,943.
41 additional recoveries from the virus has pushed the total number of recovered Covid-19 patients in the island nation, to 9,783.
35 patients in Maldives succumbed to the infection due to complications. The 35th death was reported on Sunday, a 56-year-old Maldivian woman who was seeking treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Dharumavantha Hospital.
The Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC)’s Spokesperson Dr. Nazla Rafeeq revealed during Monday night’s presser that there are four patients currently receiving treatment in the ICU of Hulhumalé Medical Facility, where a total of 62 patients are receiving treatment including those in intensive care.
Out of the 1,118 active cases of the virus across the country, 389 patients are seeking treatment from isolation facilities, 21 patients less than Sunday.
In addition, there are 68 patients hospitalized for treatment. This is four less than the previous day.
Over the past week, a total of 376 patients tested positive for the virus. The highest daily increase in cases was reported at 86 on October 8, the lowest being the 35 cases reported on Sunday.
The public health authority also revealed that there are active cases of the virus in 21 residential islands and 20 resorts, with the inclusion of 12 tourists and 19 resort workers. There are 151 active cases across islands in total, with 88 local cases and 63 foreigners.
The greatest number of active cases is currently in Kadhdhoo island of Laamu atoll, 58, followed by Addu City’s Gan district, at 55.
Dr. Nazla went on to reveal that there are 83 samples pending out of the 170,757 samples that have been collected thus far.
On Monday, Maldives saw 401 arrivals which has pushed the total arrival count since border reopening on July 15, to 39,423.
