An individual who went snorkeling off the western coast of Maldives capital Malé City has been found dead.

Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) revealed that Shaffan Rasheed, 24 had gone snorkeling off the coast of the West Park region in the capital city at around 11am on Monday.

A team of divers from the MNDF’s Malé area coastguard squadron had been dispatched to the area after receiving reports of Shaffan going missing after having gone snorkeling alone.

MNDF received the report a little after 4:30pm.

Divers found his body 12.1 meters underwater, reports local media outlets.

The deceased was taken to Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), revealed MNDF.
