Incumbent finance minister Ameer and former minister Munawwar and Jihad to be questioned

Incumbent Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer, as well as two other former finance ministers, have been summoned to the People’s Majlis’ committee of the whole house.

In addition to Ameer, former ministers Ahmed Munawwar and Abdulla Jihad are to be questioned in relation to the confusion over the country’s debt due to loans between 2013 to 2018.

While the former ministers have been accused of acting unlawfully during their tenure, the parliament claims that the incumbent minister is in the same manner.

The committee is to question two others over the matter as well, Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) governor Ali Hashim and Auditor General Hassan Ziyath.

56 members voted in favour of summoning them, at a meeting held on Monday.
