Bank of Maldives (BML) has said that there was no breach of card details at the bank.

BML said this via a statement issued on Sunday, following speculation on social media.

The statement highlighted that the bank was informed of “a potential breach of data from a large merchant by one of [its] card partners which may have affected 350 BML issued cards”, and emphasized that the bank and its partners remain “vigilant and always investigate concerns of any data compromise”.

BML added that “such breaches can typically impact many millions of customers around the world”.

Noting that these cards have been deactivated and work is underway to issue replacements for customers, bank assured that its customers “are fully protected and will not face any financial loss” in such cases where a merchant is compromised.
