Maldives Covid-19 case count surpasses 2,000

The total case count for the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic in the Maldives has surpassed 2,000.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) announced 27 new cases on Friday evening.

The new cases include 14 Maldivians, one Indian and 12 Bangladeshi nationals.

This pushes the total number to 2,003.

The Ministry of Health's Covid-19 dashboard reveals that there are eight patients currently hospitalized while Maldives has seen a recovery rate of 59.56%, with 1,193 recoveries.

Further, the country has observed a total of eight coronavirus-related deaths.

Maldives is preparing to initiate the next phase of the lockdown ease plan across the capital city, from June 15 onwards.

As such, additional easing measures such as allowing individuals to go out without the police permits, allowing congregational prayers among many others are to be implemented on Monday.
