Sittings to be held at parliamentary building with HPA's approval

HPA has compiled a list of procedures to be followed in allowing the sitting to be held there

NEOC had said that its counsel was not sought in making the decision

People’s Majlis had on Monday announced the decision to hold the sitting at the parliamentary building

Sittings at the parliamentary building are being held with the required approval from the Health Protection Agency (HPA).

While the People’s Majlis had on Monday announced the decision to hold Tuesday's sitting at the parliamentary building, the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) had said that they had not sought its counsel in making the decision.

However, RaajjeMV has learnt that HPA has given the approval to conduct the sitting at the parliamentary building and has compiled a list of procedures to be followed in doing so.

The seven procedures are;

  1. MPs body temperature will be checked prior to being allowed into chamber
  2. Those with any symptoms will not be allowed inside chamber
  3. MPs must always keep a minimum distance of three feet from each other, when entering and exiting the chamber
  4. Arrangements have to be made for handwashing and/or hand sanitizers must be provided
  5. Furniture and other items at the parliament chambers must be cleaned and disinfected
  6. MPs must always take infection prevention measures (use tissues when coughing or sneezing, or do so into elbow)
  7. Must only hold sittings at the parliamentary building only if required to, otherwise should continue with virtually

While the Majlis has decided to hold Tuesday’s sitting at the parliamentary building, it is to hold the first reading of an amendment to the constitution at the sitting.

As per the standard operations procedure announced by the parliament, 42 lawmakers will be present on the floor at any given time. The same procedures will be followed during voting as well. Further, only a minimum number of employees are to be present during the sitting, and all are required to wear masks.

Parliament sitting are being held online since March 30.
