The last of the Thailand nationals stranded in the Maldives due to the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) provoked lockdown who registered to return home, have been repatriated on Monday morning.
The Royal Thai Honorary Consulate in the Maldives made the reveal via Twitter on Monday morning, adding that they were repatriated via a chartered flight from the country’s national airline, Maldivian.
As such, the Tweet reads that this was the fourth and last voluntary repatriation flight for Thai nationals and that it carried a total of 78 nationals of Thailand from the Velana international Airport to Bangkok, Thailand.
15 and 63 Thai nationals have been picked up from Malé and Colombo, Sri Lanka, respectively for the repatriation.
With this being said, the consulate has helped a total of 349 Thai nationals stranded in Maldives, to return home during this pandemic.
Maldivian also commended the “excellent work” by everyone involved in making the repatriation, a success amid the pandemic.
Last week, the government repatriated 148 Thai nationals in the third flight for voluntary repatriation.
In mid-April, the government also facilitated the evacuation of Thai national via the first of three repatriation flights. The second flight departed from the Velana International Airport (VIA) on May 5 with 131 Thai nationals.
The government has been facilitating the repatriation of several foreigner communities residing in the Maldives, including Indians, Bangladeshis, Koreans, Japanese, Sri Lankans and Pakistani nationals.
