Over 300 personnel from the Maldives Police Service (MPS) have joined the Covid-19 response workforce
In a special interview during RaajjeTV’s Covid-19 Coverage, Commissioner of Police, Mohamed Hameed highlighted that frontline workers are at the highest risk of contracting the virus.
Highlighting that 23 police personnel have tested positive for the infection thus far, CP Hameed noted that no additional cases have been reported.
He added that none of the officers placed in quarantined have tested positive for the virus, thus, positive case count remains unchanged.
Adding that all police personnel and employees are in good health, CP Hameed noted that there were 293 officers in “managed” isolation after coming in direct contact with the officers who contracted the virus.
Earlier, Hameed noted that MPS is taking “enhanced measures” as the efforts to curb the spread of the disease is a “tremendous challenge”.
Since the community transmission was detected in Maldives capital, Malé City, a total of 680 police officers were isolated, out of which 391 have since joined the workforce after completing the required 14 days in isolation.
Police officers have been working in the frontlines of battling the global pandemic, where teams are active in monitoring outlying islands as well as carrying out special operations in relation to the pandemic.
