The government of Maldives has repatriated a total of 237 foreigners stranded in the Maldives, on Thursday.
The Maldives Immigration department revealed that repatriated were 190 Indonesians and 47 Europeans, under the operation of evacuate mass communities of foreigners who have been stranded in the Maldives due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The European nationals among the evacuees will travel to Colombo first, said the department.
The Indonesian nationals were repatriated via a flight from Indonesia.
Due to the pandemic, Maldives closed its borders and banned on-arrival visas from March 27, following which international travel was restricted temporarily.
Since then, the government has been facilitating the repatriation of several foreigner communities residing in the Maldives, including Indians, Bangladeshis, Koreans, Japanese, Sri Lankans and Pakistani nationals.
