The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has revealed that they have completed 54% of the road development project in Dhuvaafaru island of Raa atoll.
Highlighting that the construction of major roads in the island under the road construction project is “well underway”, the company revealed that the project has progressed up to 54%.
Under the project, MTCC designed a road drainage system which will infiltrate rainwater into the freshwater lens of the island, instead of pumping out flood water into the sea.
MTCC said that the system is similar to the infiltration storm water drainage system installed in Phase One of Hulhumalé.
The company is also tasked with constructing several roads under the project, which was contracted to MTCC during May 2019.
Coming at a cost of MVR 28.2 million, the project was contracted to be completed within 240 days.
Although construction work across the Maldives has been halted due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the authorities have assured the public that none of its development projects will be affected or halted in the wake of the pandemic.
