The shops in Fuvahmulah City are to remain closed until May 31.

Fuvahmulah City Council revealed that they have implemented several measures under powers vested to the council under the public health protection act, at a time the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic is spreading swiftly in the country.

As such, the city had earlier ordered shop owners to close shops from May 3 to May 17. It has since been extended to May 31.

Further, the shops are allowed to carry out delivery services as before, within the extended period.

This comes at a time concerns have risen over some individuals forwarding forged payment receipts to shop owners after their purchase, since shops have been accepting online payment as a safety measure.

Owing to this, shop owners have been asked to be extra cautious and double check if they have received the payment before completing the deliveries.

Earlier, the city residents were prohibited from going out unless for essential needs.

Further, residents have also been urged to avoid gatherings of more than three individuals when they go out for essential needs. Fines will be imposed on those who violate these procedures, added the council.

The council has urged all residents to adhere to these regulations despite having to face difficulties due to these measures.

These measures have been take for the greater good of the people, noted the council.
