Maldives sees drop in the spread of communicable diseases
Reported cases of the common cold are less
The doctor also noted that cases of diarrhea have also reduced
The public still needs to practice more caution

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed that Maldives has seen a significant drop in the number of reported cases of communicable diseases within this period, in comparison to previous years.

Speaking to press on Tuesday night, the authority’s Epidemiologist Dr. Ibrahim Afzal revealed that the number is significantly low in comparison to the past three years, after the lockdown imposed across the Greater Malé Region provoked by the Covid-19 pandemic, which in turn led to the people following social distancing measures.

As such, the doctor noted that the trend of the spread of communicable diseases in the Maldives has lowered by a great deal including the common cold, flu and fever.

He added that the rate is lower than the average rate.

Highlighting that cases of diarrhea see a rise during the fasting month of Ramadan in previous years, Dr. Afzal noted that such cases have decreased this year.

This is because the people have stopped dining outdoors and prioritized social distancing, he added.
