The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has issued a yellow alert over the regions between Baa atoll and Addu City where squally weather is expected to prevail.
The yellow alert is among several issued in the region over the course of the past few days and will be in effect from 5pm to 10pm.
Torrential rain showers, thunderstorms and average winds of 28 – 35 miles per hour gusting to 55 - 60 miles per hour with choppy seas, are expected to prevail over these regions.
The department urged individuals to be cautious of the adverse weather conditions and strong monsoon activities as swell wave surges have also been predicted during high tide times.
The southernmost city has been severely affected by heavy rain showers which caused deep flooding throughout most of its districts, since the southwest monsoon began. The monsoon has wreaked havoc across the city, inflicting damage that is heavier than ever before.
Generally, scattered rain showers with isolated squally showers and thunderstorms are expected over the south and central atolls.
