The new advisory states that the alert has been extended from 01:20pm to 04:30pm

The yellow alert issued from Gaaf Alif atoll to southernmost Addu City on Sunday morning, has been extended through Sunday evening.

The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) issued a yellow alert over the regions between Gaaf Alif atoll and southernmost Addu City from 08:30am to 12:30pm on Sunday, as torrential rain showers and thunderstorms have been predicted to prevail over the region.

The new advisory states that the alert has been extended from 01:20pm to 04:30pm.

Average strong winds of 25 – 30 miles per hour are expected over the region with winds gusting up to 50 miles per hour.

Generally, scattered rain showers with squally showers and thunderstorms are expected over the entire country and showers are expected to be heavy at times.

Winds are expected to gust west to northwesterly at 15 – 25 miles per hour and may increase between 50 – 60 miles per hour during squally showers.

Further the department has predicted seas to be generally rough throughout the country.

The department urged individuals to be cautious of the adverse weather conditions and strong monsoon activities as swell wave surges have also been predicted during high tide times.
