Essential equipment and supplies for the completion of the Covid-19 Village Hospital have been brought to the Maldives.

Taking to Twitter early Saturday, the country’s national airline, Maldivian wrote that Bangladeshi airline, BIMAN Airlines arrived with the consignment of essentials for the Covid-19 Village Hospital development as well as some medical supplies.

Maldivian expressed gratitude towards the Stellar Aviation, BIMAN Airlines and all the government agencies that assisted the airline in the operation.

The flight arrived in Maldives as part of the government’s efforts to repatriate the Bangladeshi nationals stranded in the country. The repatriation will be carried out on two flights on Saturday.

The Covid-19 Village Hospital was established as part of the government’s preparations for a situation that may arise in which a large group of patients are required to be admitted for treatment.

The 300-bed facility is established near Tree Top Hospital in Hulhumalé and government institutions as well as officers of the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) are working to complete it.

The National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) earlier revealed that the project was halted after a number of workers at the site tested positive for Covid-19. The task force’s spokesperson expressed hope that the project will be completed within the next few weeks.

The positive patients from the site includes MNDF officers as well as migrant workers.

The government has allocated MVR 40 million for the facility being developed in the country’s Covid-19 response efforts and it was initially set to be completed by the end of April.

MVR 12 million out of the MVR 40 million is being spent for the construction of the building and the remaining MVR 28 million is being spend to acquire the required medical supplies and equipment for the facility.
