Maldives Police Service (MPS) is set to implement additional restrictive measures on the movement on Sinamalé Bridge.
This was revealed by the authority on Thursday afternoon.
As such, the additional measures are being put in place in the wider effort to identify, contain and control the possible surge of the Covid-19 pandemic, which was predicted by the authorities earlier this week.
The measures will be in place for a period of two weeks and under the measures, entry into the bridge will be restricted for the general public from 1am to 9am, every day.
The measures are to be implemented from 1am, Friday, onward.
Further, MPS revealed that essential public services and security services are exempt from this restriction.
This comes at a time the authorities have stated that the country is headed towards a Covid-19 surge in the coming two weeks.
Following this prediction, authorities have urged the public to refrain from going out at all, unless absolutely necessary.
While the Greater Malé Region was placed under lockdown on April 15, the lockdown is to remain in effect until May 28.
The country is close to hitting the 1,000 mark of Covid-19 cases, with the recent development bringing the tally to 968 on Thursday afternoon.
