The Local Government Authority (LGA) has revealed that individuals in locked down regions of outlying atolls will be allowed to travel from one island to the other.
This was revealed by LGA’s Director General, Adam Shareef during a press briefing at the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) on Tuesday afternoon.
As such, Shareef revealed that individuals residing in outlying atolls will be allowed to travel from one island to the other, for essential needs, after acquiring a special permit from the island council.
Further, LGA has sought from island council to make arrangements for their residents, stranded in other islands to return if the island, if the government has not placed monitoring measures on it.
Shareef went on to add that this does not mean individuals will be allowed to travel between islands regularly, but settle in one island.
It has also been revealed that residents of capital Malé City will be allowed to return after acquiring the special permit from the Maldives Police Service (MPS).
This comes at a time the government has halted the process of taking island residents into quarantine facilities established at islands. Until further notice, these individuals will be taken into transit quarantine facilities.
Those taken into transit quarantine will be required to complete the 14-day period and will only be allowed to return home after Covid-19 testing is carried out and their results come back negative.
