An employee at the Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) has tested positive for the wide-spreading Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19).

Sources report that the employee works at the WAMCO call center and was asked to self-isolate at home on May 2, upon exhibiting Covid-19 like symptoms.

Despite the lockdown imposed across the Greater Malé Region, WAMCO workers have been active in collecting waste from households throughout these days. Individuals have been urged to keep their waste on the roadside between 12pm and 2pm.

However, households under monitoring or quarantine has been asked not to follow this procedure and contact the corporation for services.

Employees on the frontlines of service provision for the people have been testing positive for the infection from a number of companies including Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), State Trading Organization (STO) and Maldive Gas.

Maldives crossed the 700 mark of Covid-19 cases on Friday and the Health Protection Agency (HPA) has urged caution as the numbers are expected to grow within the next few weeks.
