Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has commenced disinfection and sanitization procedures at the ferry terminals used for ferry operations to Villimalé.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) announced that one of the company’s frontline workers in the ferry operations had tested positive for the Covid-19 infection, on Wednesday.
Since then, MTCC has halted all ferry services and begun disinfecting and sanitizing the terminals.
Further, all ferries used for operations are also being disinfected and sanitized, after the authorities confirmed the positive case.
MTCC went on to reveal that the remaining seven frontline workers who were residing at the ferry terminal over the previous week have now been taken to a quarantine facility. The company aims to resume normal ferry operations after replacing frontline workers on Thursday night after having acquired approval from the HPA.
The company has assured their consumers and staff that their safety is the company’s highest priority.
Although ferry services are temporarily halted, emergency ferry services have been made available for healthcare workers.
According to travel statistics of the company in March, a total of 8,866 trips were made in the Greater Malé Region in which a total of 490,600 individuals were transported.
