President extends condolences to the family of late Ameena Mohamed Amin

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has extended condolences to the family of late Ameena Mohamed Ameen.

This was done during a telephone call to the family on Wednesday, shortly after the former first daughter passed away.

As such, President Solih noted that he is “greatly saddened” to learn of the passing of Ameena and extended heartfelt sympathy and sincere condolences to the family, going on to pray for her soul to be granted eternal peace in Jannah.

The last surviving child and only daughter of ex-president Al Ameer Mohamed Ameen Dhoshimeynaa Kilegefaanu or more commonly known as President Mohamed Amin Didi, Ameena passed away on Wednesday morning at her residence. She passed away at age 85 after suffering from a prolonged illness.

She is survived by four children; Ibrahim Faisal, Ameen Faisal, Farahanaz Faisal and Abdul Hameed as well as spouse.

She was the only and last surviving child of the late president among the three children he had with Fathimath Saeed.

Ameena was the first ever first child to become a parliamentarian in the Maldives history, her tenure was from 1985 to 1989. She served the Maldives government for over 20 years, having begun her service on 23 July 1955 as Deputy Principal of Madhrasathul Saniyya, she held the post until 17 December 1957.

She resumed service on 21 May 1961 as the secretary at the Ministry of Health, after a long hiatus. She continued serving in the position until 16 January 1968, she also served as the secretary to the Prime Minister of Maldives during this period.

Further, she served as the Director of Social Affairs at the President Office during the presidency of Maumoon Abdul Gayoom for eight years, from 10 February 1980.

Afterwards, Ameena served as the Director of Social Affairs of Ministry of Home Affairs and Social Services and also served as Director of Social Services of Ministry of Health and Welfare until 01 March 1991

The late first daughter also served as one of the appointed members to the People’s Majlis by the President.
