President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has urged retired healthcare workers to rejoin the frontlines at a time the Maldives is in dire need of healthcare workers due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
During his address to the nation regarding the pandemic on Monday evening, President Solih noted that there are several healthcare workers who are retired or have relieved themselves of their service, currently.
These healthcare workers have been urged to rejoin the work force in service of the nation, as the country’s need for a strengthened healthcare system is increasing day by day.
The president stressed that the number of healthcare workers in the country is significantly less, however, he noted that these workers are well experienced and carry the expertise required in their line of work.
As such, he highlighted that the virus has not spread among the community as much as it was predicted, all because of the recommendations given by health professionals under which the government implemented precautionary measures. Another reason for this is because the people have extended cooperation for the authorities, said Solih.
Further, the president went on to express gratitude to the people for their patience and cooperation with the authorities during these challenging times.
Highlighting that there are several individuals working tirelessly in the frontlines to control and contain the spread of the disease and away from their families, President Solih extended sincere gratitude to these individuals as well.
