Maldivian Red Crescent (MRC) has garnered over 100,000 in funds for the migrant relief fund launched by the humanitarian organization on May 1.
This was revealed by the President of the Maldivian Red Crescent, Ali Nashid during a press briefing held at the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) on Sunday afternoon, where he revealed that the organization has garnered over MVR 190,000 as donations to their “Covid-19 Migrant Relief Fund” as part of the organization’s Covid-19 response efforts and with the aim to help migrants in Maldives, who face the socio-economic impact of the pandemic.
To donate to the Migrant Relief Fund, individuals have been asked to use the donate button on theirwebsite, with the remarks “COVID19 Migrants Relief Fund”.
The organization will be sharing updates on the amount as they come, said Nashid.
MRC accepts in-kind goods such as meal packs and funds and will not be accountable for any contributions directed to third parties.
The organization has been providing meal packs and staple food items as well as essentials to the migrant workers under this initiative.
They have also been working to provide hygienic kits to migrant workers in isolation and quarantine facilities.
The government has begun moving migrant workers living in congested living spaces, elsewhere. Some expatriates have been moved to Gulhifalhu as well.
