Covid-19 patients currently in Farukolhufushi will be moved to the isolation facility in Bandos island, along with all other cases that surface in the Greater Malé Region, reveals the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC).

The spokesperson of the Covid-19 task force, Mohamed Mabrook Aziz made the reveal during Wednesday night’s routinely press briefing, where he stated that all Covid-19 cases that are discovered in the Malé Region will be moved into isolation at Bandos from now on.

Those in Farukolhufushi are being moved to Bandos due to technical issues at the facility.

This comes at a time patients quarantined in the island have been expressing concern over the condition of the facility, despite the facility being re-opened after reconstruction. The state had spent MVR 7.3 million on the facility.

Mabrook also revealed that they will be reconstructing the facility in Farukolhufushi again and placing patients there.

Further, he added that the eight patients from Narudhoo island in Shaviyani atoll will be taken into Dhonakulhi Resort in Haa Alif atoll. This comes at a time the public have been expressing concern due to delays in taking the patients into isolation.

In light of this, the spokesperson highlighted that the delay was followed by the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) team’s recommendation to place patients from a certain region in a facility established in the region. As such, the patients were moved into the facility after it was established in the region.

The government has established a number of quarantine and isolation facilities in regions across the south and north that are currently in use.

A total of 280 confirmed cases have been reported in the Maldives as of Thursday morning.
