Authorities have revealed that a total of 248 households across the nation are currently under monitoring.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that this includes households across Maldives. Most are located in capital Malé City, where the biggest clusters have been identified.
Statistics publicized by the authorities reveal that 26 households were brought under monitoring or quarantined on April 28 alone. A number of these households are from Shaviyani atoll, where a community spread was discovered recently after the captain of "Amaaz", a passenger/cargo boat tested positive for Covid-19. The boat carried 98 passengers to 13 islands in total.
As such, the community spread was discovered in Narudhoo island of the atoll, where eight cases have unfolded as of Tuesday. A case also emerged in Milandhoo island of the same atoll. All these cases are linked to the AMZ cluster (Amaaz boat cluster).
Further, 29 shops, godowns and clinics in Malé and Hulhumalé are included among the places where monitoring measures are in effect.
In addition, 22 islands and three vessels; "Amaaz", "Kaaviya" and "Dharuma" are also under monitoring.
Confirmed number of COVID-19 cases have been increasing steadily. Cases are expected to spike once the pending test results are verified and publicized by the authorities. The backlog of pending results are at an all time high since the outbreak was discovered, with samples exceeding 1000.
