Maldives Red Crescent has revealed that they have extended psychosocial support to a total of 1,468 individuals thus far, amid the Covid-19 crisis.
Joining the routinely press briefing by the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) on Tuesday afternoon, the humanitarian organization’s Program and Services Manager, Maeed Zahir revealed that the organization has extended psychosocial support to a number of individuals affected by the Covid-19 pandemic,most of the callers are those in quarantine facilities.
A call center was established at Dharubaaruge on March 7.
He added that the call center began extending services in cooperation with minimum volunteers in Psychological First Aid (PFA) ever since the first sign of the community spread was discovered.
Highlighting that a hotline for psychosocial support was established for the first time in Maldives on April 26, Maeed noted that they have extended aid to 95 individuals since they began remote psychosocial support operations.
The hotline number, 1452, is active for services through 8pm to 12 am.
Prior to that, psychosocial support was extended to a total of 1,373 individuals, mostly those in quarantine facilities.
46 volunteers are active on the frontlines of the psychosocial operation, with 266 individuals having been trained in the field thus far.
