The Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services has revealed that a total of 136 individuals have been provided temporary shelter thus far.
According to the statistics publicized by the ministry on Saturday, the number includes resort staff who got stranded in the Malé City region, homeless individuals stranded on the streets, those who were forced to evacuate their homes due to failure in paying rent as well as drug users.
As such, 13 resort staff were among the 136 individuals, 11 who were in the region after being released from prison and six who were forced to evacuate their homes after failing to pay rent.
Further, 16 homeless individuals were rescued while stranded on the streets and 14 individuals who were in the region for medical purposes are also included among those who were provided shelter.
Nine individuals were in the region for other purposes and the most number of individuals out of the total are drug users, 20.
The Greater Malé Region was locked down on 15 April following the discovery of the first community transmission and since then, the ministry revealed that they received the most number of cases related to shelter. As such, they received 40 cases linked to housing.
