The country’s largest motorcycle distributor, Sheesha Private Limited will not be providing Ramadan allowances for their employees this year.
In a circular released by the sole authorized distributors of Honda in the country, they revealed their decision to implement certain measures from April 21 onward due to the several challenges being faced by the economy.
As such, employee salaries have been slashed and some have been put on no-pay leave while others have been terminated from their jobs.
Sheesha expressed hope that their employees will accept and come to terms with the company’s decision.
According to the Employment Act of the Maldives, all Muslim employees of the country must be provided a Ramadan allowance of MVR 3,000.
This comes at a time the Job Center established by authorities has been receiving hundreds of complaints regarding termination and other issues following the Covid-19 crisis in the country.
