The National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) has revealed that the medical facility being established in Hulhumalé will be completed by the end of this ongoing month of April.
Speaking at the press briefing to provide the latest updates regarding the Covid-19 situation in the Maldives on Tuesday night, Covid-19 spokesperson Mohamed Mabrook Aziz revealed that the project was initially set to be completed by 21 April.
However, the finishing touches and stationing the required equipment at these facilities will be completed by the end of April, he said.
A team of workers from the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF), Housing Development Corporation (HDC), FENAKA Corporation, construction workers and private agencies are active in the completion of the medical facility, specialized for the Covid-19 response efforts.
Providing details on the progress of the project, Chief of Defense Force, Major General Abdulla Shamaal stated that the facility will have 19 rooms and 290 beds within five blocks.
Following the spike in Covid-19 cases reported from the Maldives capital since the first-ever case of community transmission was reported on 15 April, Shamaal stated that it is important to establish more medical faciltiies for the treatment of the disease.
With the establishment of the Hulhumalé medical facility, the capacity to fight the pandemic will be enhanced.
