Authorities have revealed that over 180 contacts have been identified, in relation to the 17 new Covid-19 cases reported thus far on Tuesday.
This includes two “contact hubs” with a possible 50 and 140 direct contacts in each.
The new cases include seven Bangladeshi nationals and 10 Maldivians including an 80-year-old man.
With these new cases, the city’s Covid-19 total case count has reached 64, and the country’s is at 84.
The first community transmission case was detected on April 15, after authorities made the decision to increase testing at the flu clinics. However, they estimate the community transmission to have started "about three weeks ago".
The capital is currently on lockdown until April 30 following the discovery of a community transmission, and travel between islands have been banned unless authorized as a number of people had travelled to the outlying islands from the capital. As such, those that left the city from April 15 have been asked to self-isolate and inform relevant authorities.
