Kulhudhuffushi City has been placed under lockdown.
The task force for Covid-19 on the island reached the decision as the patient is to have had contact with several residents in the city after arriving from capital city Malé, where the number of confirmed cases through the first-ever community transmission, has spiked.
The lockdown took effect from 12pm Tuesday and will remain in place for a period of 72 hours.
While the individual returned to Kulhudhuffushi via boat on April 14, 337 others are to have travelled on the boat.
The boat is to have docked at Kulhudhuffushi City after which the patient entered the city and is to have contacted several residents of the city. This was revealed by the City Council President, Abdul Latheef Hassan.
This person had shared a room with the Uligan resident (Patient 52) who departed from Malé City on 15 April and is to have tested positive.
Patient 52 has now been isolated and authorities are authorities earlier said that over 130 contacts had been identified.
The Kulhudhuffushi Hospital Manager, Ahmed Dawud revealed that the decision was reached owing to the fact the patient 52’s roommate in the capital city was a Kulhudhuffushi resident.
Authorities earlier banned travel between all inhabited islands and declared a lockdown across the Greater Malé Region on 15 April, which is to remain until 30 April.
