Privately-run television station, RaajjeTV has gone into lockdown with a number of its staff camping at its premises, following the extension of the lockdown declared across the Greater Malé Region.
With the ever-changing situation of the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic across the country, authorities imposed a lockdown across the region after the discovery of a cluster of Covid-19 cases in the country’s capital a few days back. Since then, a record number of infections have been reported from the city, crossing 30 on Sunday since the first case emerged last Wednesday.
Following this, the station went into a full lockdown early Sunday, with a number of its staff setting up camp inside the premises, which has been closed off to the public.
The station’s Deputy COO, Naazmee Saeed stressed that the station saw it fit to take this action as a precautionary measure for the safety of their staff, due to the worsening Covid-19 situation.
As such, the station remains hopeful that this measure will ensure the tireless work and services of its journalists and other staff, is not hindered in any way during these trying times during which the general public is reliant on responsible reporting.
Employees that have not been stationed at RaajjeTV will work from home until the lockdown period comes to an end.
