State Trading Organisation (STO) has begun rationing the sale of onions, potatoes and eggs.
Speaking to RaajjeMV, STO's media official Abdulla Mohamed disclosed that the decision was made to provide these items to all citizens due to the increasing demand.
Each person will be sold one kilo of onions and potatoes, said Abdulla, adding that one tray of eggs will be sold per person.
The price of one kilo of onions and potatoes at STO is at MVR 12 whereas one egg costs MVR1.50.
While STO has begun rationing these items, the market price for the aforementioned continues to rise.
Currently, the market price of onions and potatoes is at MVR 30 per kilo whereas the price of one egg is between MVR 2.50 - 3.00
500 Megatons of sugar and 993 Megatons of rice ordered from India arrived on Saturday with another 1500 Megatons of rice and 500 Megatons of sugar en-route.
