"The most dangerous thing to do these days, would be to go to the airport"

Travel bans have been imposed on the most high-risk countries with the recommendations from health experts

"Government will extend all the assistance needed by Maldivians facing difficulties abroad"

The government will be placing Maldivian who arrive in the country from the countries on which the government earlier placed temporary travel restrictions, under quarantine as per protocol.

Speaking to the public to share the latest information regarding the fast-spreading Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19), spokesperson for the Covid-19 task-force, Mabrook Aziz revealed that Maldivians who arrive in the country with a 14-day travel period in China, Iran, North and South Gyeongsang Province of South Korea, Italy, Spain, Île-de-France and Grand Est of France, Bavaria, North Rhine-Westphalia and Baden-Württemberg of Germany, as well as Malaysia and the United Kingdom will be placed under quarantine at quarantine facilities as per protocol.

Mabrook highlighted that these individuals will not be quarantined at home, rather at government-established facilities.

Further, arrivals who develop Covid-19 like symptoms will be isolated at the facility established at Farukolhufushi.

Maldivians arriving from Bangladesh will be placed under home-isolation for a period of 14 days if they do not show symptoms, however, they will be transferred to isolation facilities established by the government should they develop symptoms.

Adding that the travel bans have been imposed on the most high-risk countries with the recommendations from health experts, Mabrook stated that the government turned an Air Asia flight from landing at Velana International Airport on Tuesday.

Stressing that the situation in Malaysia and the United Kingdom is observably worsening, the spokesperson stated that the “most dangerous thing to do these days, would be to go to the airport”. As such, Maldivians residing in these countries are urged to stay indoors and practice social distancing as well as self-hygiene.

Mabrook assured the people that the government will extend all the assistance needed by Maldivians facing difficulties abroad.
