Covid-19: 6,000 more test kits brought to Maldives

The government has revealed that 5,000 more screening kits and 1,000 more confirmatory kits have been brought to Maldives.

The reveal was made via a press conference by the government’s Covid-19 taskforce, where Spokesperson for all things Covid-19, Mabrooz Aziz revealed that the additional 6,000 test kits have been brought to Maldives.

Screening kits allow health professionals to identify whether an individual is contaminated with any type of the Coronavirus and confirmatory kits confirm that the disease in in fact the Covid-19.

Although testing for the Novel Coronavirus was unavailable at Maldives when the epidemic first began, it has been made available through the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) laboratory.

The World Health Organization (WHO) earlier donated 1,000 test kits to the Maldives.

On Saturday, Maldives confirmed its 10th case of the fatal infection.

All 10 cases were discovered from resorts, and all patients are foreigners. One of them is being treated at the Dharumavantha Hospital in the capital city, the 70-year-old’s condition is reported serious.

Recently declared by the WHO as a global pandemic, the first two cases of Covid-19 surfaced from Kuredu Island Resort, nestled into Lhaviyani atoll, eight more cases have surfaced since then, from Sandies Bathala Island Resort, Kuramathi Maldives and Anantara Dhigu.
