Indian medical relief team arrives to assist in fight against Covid-19
The medical relief team consists of 14-members from all corners of the neighboring country
They will be extending support and assistance to the Maldives health authorities to tackle the Covid-19 situation
India is to provide medicines to the Maldives that will last over the span of three months as well

The Indian-government-dispatched the team of medical experts to the Maldives as part of its decision to provide assistance to the Maldivian government’s efforts to combat the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19).

The medical relief team consisting of 14-members from all corners of the neighboring country arrived on Friday.

They are here to extend support and assistance to the Maldives health authorities to tackle the Covid-19 situation.

The team consists of anesthesiologists, pulmonologists, physicians and lab technicians.

A statement the High Commission reveals that India will also donate medicines required for the treatment of the fatal virus to Maldives, despite the government halting medicine exports to foreign countries.

As such, India is to provide medicines that will last over the span of three months.

The humanitarian aid offered by India mirrors the close ties between both countries and adds to the India’s “neighborhood first” police and Maldives’ “India first” policy.

Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister Sr. S. Jaishankar "for the timely assistance" following the team's arrival.
